Judy Green 1941 - 2025

November 9, 2025

Its with great sadness that  we have to report we recently lost one of our long term committee members Judy Green. For many years Judy, had been the club’s newsletter editor, and then switching roles to being the clubs Treasurer. In total around 40 years’ service to the club committee.

Many of you will recall Judy in her Powder Blue Frogeye Sprite, on Hillclimb’s. Although Judy may not have been the fastest car on the hill she was without a doubt one of the most enthusiastic people within the paddock. Born in Kent in 1941, Judy attended the Tunbridge Wells Grammar School. Then with her great enthusiasm for music Judy attended the Newton St Loe teacher training college where she qualified and then took up a post at a school in Chippenham. Judy wasn’t totally at home in the school environment and soon became a peripatetic music teacher. Judy specialised in the French Horn and her natural gifted abilities she became a professional French horn player that saw her play in high profile national concerts.

Mean while at a Young Farmers dance she caught the eye of one of the band playing there, and her husband to be Dan Green. Dan came from a Glastonbury family and his brother was the very successful west country rally driver Tom Green. Judy found she had a passion for cars and motoring and encouraged by Tom she became a Burnham Member in the late 1970’s. A selection of very nice road cars followed, a Daytona Yellow RS2000 Custom, then a Black Sunbeam Lotus and then Judy fancied an upgrade and ordered a new Moonstone Blue Sunbeam Lotus. This car she kept unregistered with the dealer’s in Exeter until it was thought to be almost the last unregistered Sunbeam Lotus in the UK.

Although Judy did Hillclimb the sunbeams she felt it would be better to have a separate competition car. Firstly a Yellow and black Mini 1275GT, which she competed in both the Hillclimb’s and the rallies at Cricket St Thomas, then eventually her lovely do anything Frogeye Sprite. Judy also co-drove for Tom on a few events. Feeling the need to move away from music in the 1980’s Judy trained as a British School of Motoring driving instructor, but not a career change that really suited her and music was still her main focus.

Judy produced the club’s magazine for quite some considerable time. With Dan being a qualified Graphic Artist the Steering Column took on a newer fresher look. Judy then moved over into the role of Club Treasurer, where she established excellent relationships with the Clubs Accountants and her local branch of the Bank. Making sure the club funds remained healthy was a priority to Judy. Only recent health issues whereby her hip was creating mobility issues prevented her from driving to the committee meetings. Judy rarely missed a meeting in those 40 years and her work as Treasurer was a very important commitment to her.

One of Judy’s other interests was the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, for many years through her enthusiastic support the club have been able to make a substantial donation to them following our Dave Warren classic Tour.

Sadly Dan passed away recently, but their home was always a welcoming place to visit. They would often find a reason, to have a party, even one for Dans black MG Midget when it came back from a body refresh, Birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries were also superb events to attend. Through Dan having his MG there started a love of the MG product with her immaculate blue ZT-T being the most recent.

The other love in Judy’s life was the Cats, and no Christmas wasn’t complete without a Greens homemade Christmas card depicting Bramble on its cover.

Judy will be missed by many for her long serving dedication to the club and for her enthusiasm, be it as a Marshal, Competitor or Club Official.

Judy we Thank You.
